E30 Manual brake adapter plate: Coming soon!

The E30 power brake booster interferes with E30 V8 swaps, and even some BMW engine swaps. We're working on an adapter plate to make manual brake conversions easy and inexpensive. The plate mounts on the firewall and is drilled to fit two master cylinders:

1. BMW master cylinder.  Based on our research, the stock BMW E30 master cylinder is 23mm, or .9055".  The E30 M3 master cylinder is 25mm, or .9842".  When you use a large bore master cylinder in a manual brake conversion, you'll need to move the pedal mounting point up 1".

2. Compact Wilwood master cylinder.  These units are high quality, inexpensive, compact and available in most any size you'd want.  They come with several different options for mounting a reserviour.  Trial and error from other E30 owners has determined that 13/16" or 3/4" bore seem to be good sizes.  (Of course, bigger calipers or aftermarket brakes will need a larger bore.)  When you resize the master cylinder to a smaller bore, you should be able to keep your original pedal mount location.
13/16" (.813") cylinder: Summit #WIL-260-5920 about $67
3/4" (.75") cylinder: Summit #WIL-260-3374 about $67

** Please note that when you modify your brake system, you hold your life in your hands.  Please be very careful and err on the side of safety.  Make sure that you size your master cylinder properly and have enough 'pedal' in case of an emergency.  We take no responsibility for your brake system modifications.
